Shantyman’s Folly is the highly anticipated debut album from Lafayette, Louisiana based pirate band, The Whiskey Bay Rovers. Containing ten tracks displaying the range of song styles that the Rovers perform, from traditional sea shanties like “Haul Away Joe” and “Hieland Laddie,” to rollicking drinking songs like “Wild Rover” and “All For Me Grog,” to the lovely ballads “Mingulay Boat Song” and “Fiddler’s Green,” Shantyman’s Folly captures nicely the spirit of the Whiskey Bay Rovers. Utilizing up to six-part harmonies, sometimes a cappella, sometimes accompanied by guitar, drums, penny whistles, recorders, and mandolin, the Rovers deliver traditional arrangements of these classic tunes with their own, more modern, twists on a few of them.
Broadsides and Ballads, also known affectionately as “The Second One” is the follow up album by the Rovers featuring highly requested salty tunes like “Rolling Down to Old Maui”, “Finnegan’s Wake” as well as the Whiskey Bay Rovers Original “The Ghost of Pierre Leblanc”. Adding new voices, instrumentation and perhaps even a secret song now and again; the Rover’s second is an excellent additional to your Piratical collection.
